More Sketches!

Here are some more practices....These are over the past 2 weeks...or so. I hope anyone who wants to look enjoys these! :3


Sketched with a normal pencil then colored with soft pastel. After Ink is added (a sharpie ultra fine point). The horses I drew from memory the birds and cats I followed tutorials.

Random doodling with oil pastels.

 The apple and pear I think are both soft pastel and colored pencils. Other stuff is a sharpie pen.

Messing with baby oil and oil pastels with colored pencils.

This is more like a painting than a sketch but I was practicing so I guess it counts.
I followed a tutorial in a book for drawing the Cosmo, the rose is just how I draw a rose...My watercolor pencil skills almost ruined this, I just took over it with Raphael watercolors instead and went with it. - Watercolor, white pen, pencil for sketching, kneadable eraser.

Pastel and Colored Pencil Sketches!

Here are some pastel sketches I've done recently. The top two I sketched without any pencil underneath and are only soft pastels.  The second two pages I did with a pencil sketch underneath and used colored pencil too. (4th image/2nd in 2nd row was done in colored pencil and oil pastels).

New Splash Screen for Tilly's Rose Garden; Seasons: Spring!

Well after much procrastination I finally made my splash screen for TRG - Spring so...here it is!


I wasn't sure which way to go with it, so I ended up with 2. I think I'm going to end up using the wide one instead of the tall one.

Tip of The Week: Coloring doesn't fix a bad sketch!

I don't know about you, but many people tend to throw a sketch together and then think they'll fix everything when they color. That "could" work, but it's not the best idea, at least when you're not at a masterful level yet. The reason is you can get lines confused or if you have a tight sketch you can end up with a stiff drawing. And making a well colored drawing isn't necessarily what makes a drawing good. The reason I say that is because if you have a stiff drawing even if its colored really well, there's just something unappealing about it. If you color from a drawing (notice I don't talk about painting, that's another subject all together!) it's the drawing that needs to look good before you touch it with color. This doesn't mean coloring good is of null-effect, it's a very good thing to be able to color masterfully and color does bring life in to an image, but if you have a stiff looking drawing, no color in this world will make it appealing. (Not referring to style, maybe you like a stiff-looking style, this is in general)

Both colored. See how the detail makes the one on the right look better?

{Digital Art} Rather Upset Troll

Okay before I say anything I'mma say this: I don't like the expression but I wouldn't have been able to change it without painting the whole thing over so...Yep.

This is kind of a "redraw" like when a person draws something and then draws it again a long time later to show how their skills have improved...I think if I had planed it to be that from the start I would have done a similar expression but oh well!

{Digital Art} Horses' Head

I colored the horse head I drew following Mark Crilley's Tutorials.

I used MyPaint to start, then did the rest in GIMP.
